7th Voices of Latin Rock Concert

January 12, 2011

We are just days away from the 7th annual Voices of Latin Rock Concert the benefits autism awareness. This year’s show will by on January 20, 2011 at Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco.

The Alex Speaks Foundation is dedicated to supporting children who are struggling with autism by contributing to programs at local schools designed to help them. The Foundation has partnered with the Voices of Latin Rock event for the past seven years to raise the necessary funds.

The proceeds from this year’s Voices of Latin Rock Concert will benefit the MIND Institute and the San Carlos Special Education Program.

Joining the Holy Trinity of Latin Rock — Malo, Tierra and El Chicano — will be Booker T, who has so generously agreed to headline our show this year.

In addition to ticket sales, we are offering corporate sponsorship opportunities to help raise funds. For more information, please call Dr. Bernardo D. Gonzalez III at (415) 285-7719 or email him at drbgmalo@aol.com.

If you are interested in donating an item for the auction, please contact Gina Rossi at gmrossi55@yahoo.com.

Thank you and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the show!

Booker T. Jones, from Booker T & the MG’s, will be headlining the event, Malo will be celebrating their 40th Anniversary and Tierra, El Chicano with a tribute to Bobby Espinosa and Rudy Regalado are some of the other acts performing. Grammy Award-nominated producer Greg Landau will be leading a collection of special guests, including La Mission Band featuring Orlando Toriente, Wayne Wallace, Camilo Landau, Miguel Maritnez, Gryan Dyer, Michele Jacques, Ayla Davila, Javier Navarette and Mary Wehner. The show will begin with the always beautiful and talented, Hot Pink Feathers samba dancers.

This year’s Armando Peraza Award honorees include Greg Landau for film score, Chuy Varela for media, Roberto Hernandez for community relations and Tyrone Diaz for graphics. The award is given for service to the Hispanic and music communities of the San Francisco Bay Area. Each honoree has displayed a great affection and service to both of the communities as well as to the Voices of Latin Rock Autism Awareness campaign. We will also be announcing a couple of additional awards on the night of the event.

iHelp for Autism

September 7, 2010

We love last month’s article from SF Weekly, “iHelp for Autism,”  about how the iPad is leading the way in advanced technological learning tools for autistic children.  With specially designed applications for children with special needs, the iPad has been adopted by many parents, and with exceptional results.  We invite you to read the entire article here.
